Haven’s Bookclub Vol.04

Vol. 4 of Haven’s Book Club will launch on September 7th, 6PM at the Haven House in collaboration with Kotobli; with a member from the collective facilitating the club.

Kotobli is a book discovery platform and database for authors, books, publishers, and literary magazines from the SWANA region and its diaspora. They are committed to the intentional process of centering and amplifying the work of small authors and publishers from the native region, especially highlighting their work on the region’s communities and struggles.

The first meeting will discuss the role of language and colonialism, motherhood under the patriarchal system, depression and s*icide as political issues, and the importance of Feminist oral histories and feminist self-narratives to understand their historical dynamics. We will conclude with Fatima Mernissi in our question about Muslim feminists and their Islamic-political approach to various issues, including the veil.
